Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Birthday Dinner at Twisted Fish Steakhouse in Seaside

For a nice dinner out during our stay in Seaside and also for my birthday dinner, we dined at Twisted Fish Steakhouse. I liked how their menu was extensive but they also offered a kids menu. Another plus was that instead of a cloth tablecloth, it was paper with color crayons, so the kids could color the whole meal if they wished. I started with a Fuzzy Pear Martini. The cocktail had Wild Roots Pear Vodka, Peach Schnapps, and pineapple juice. It was very crisp and refreshing. The drink tasted strong with a nice, sweet finish. For my entrée, I ate the Kobe Burger. It was 1/2 lb. of Kobe beef with truffle scented Arugula, chevre goat cheese, tomatoes, and black pepper mayonnaise. The burger was huge and the patty was really thick. So it was perfect for leftovers the next day. The Kobe was really tender, juicy, and cooked just right. The goat cheese gave the burger a nice sharp and creamy flavor and the arugula kept the burger from tasty too salty. And the fries alongside were very thin and crispy. My husband had the Housemade Meatloaf with a bourbon mushroom sauce and mashed potatoes. His serving was also large and he enjoyed the rest the next day. For the coloring kiddos, they opted for the macaroni and cheese from the kids menu, which came with garlic bread. Then for my birthday dessert to share with everyone I picked the brownie with ice cream. When it arrived at the table, it looked more like a Molten Chocolate dessert and I burned my tongue on the hot chocolate on top. Whoops. Hope that wasn't bad luck to hurt yourself while eating your birthday dessert? Overall I was impressed with Twisted Fish and would recommend it while visiting Seaside. From the ambiance, the service, the menu choices, and the food, it was all good.
