Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

NYE Dinner at Ironsteak

For dinner on New Years Eve, our family headed to the I.D to try teppanyaki at Ironsteak.  If you're unfamiliar with this style, its when you cook your own meat in a sizzling pan in front of you.  Some places put on a show where they cook the food in front of you.  But this was our first experience with teppanyaki where we cooked the meat ourselves, and I found it not only tasty, but fun.  My husband and I both had the Sirloin steak with rice and corn.  He added an egg to his and I added some shrimp.  We also tried the honey wings.  Our sons shared ours because the servings were pretty large.  I had a glass of Cabernet and he had a beer.  The concept is fast/casual, where you order and pay at the counter, then they bring you your drinks and food.  The mural on the wall was awesome and we also enjoyed the music, playing all our fav pop songs.  There are three different sauces for your meat, a spicy chili, a garlic one that was really light, and a pineapple teriyaki sauce that I used and found it to really enhance the flavors of the sirloin nicely.  Don't forget about the dessert.  They have a sundae made with pound cake and topped with ice cream, and a caramel sauce that the server poured tableside.  Yes, you guessed it.  That was my favorite part.  Happy New Year 2017!
