Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Lunch at Vivo 53 for an Insane Sundae

About a year after our first visit to Vivo 53,  I found myself back for another visit for lunch.  Oh, and who am I kidding?  To try an Insane Sundae.  Photos of these eye catching and sweet looking sundae's have been all over Instagram and Facebook for months and I just had to try one, too.  So I convinced my husband to go, he isn't a huge dessert fan, and our little kiddos, who didn't need a lot of convincing because ice cream is one of their top favorite things.  So we drove to Bellevue for lunch to get our pizza and ice cream on.  It was a perfect afternoon for our three year olds because a trip to the toy store and the play area at the mall was also in the cards.  I was just happy to finally get my hands on an Insane Sundae so I could photograph the heck out of it and eat it, of course.

We started with the bread service which was some Pane Bianco.  The bread was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside and tasted incredible with the olive oil dipping sauce, served on the side.  The olive oil was extra virgin olive oil with parmesan cheese, garlic, and red chili.  Then we got two of the lunch sized pizzas, a mushroom pizza with an egg on top for my husband and a Formaggio Di Capra for our sons and I to share.  That one had goat cheese, crispy prosciutto, and caramelized onions and not only was it delicious, but it was the perfect size.  I'm a sucker for goat cheese and if you give me prosciutto, too, I'm good to go.

Then it was time for the grand finale- our Insane Sundae.  We ordered the Seahawks one and it had spumoni ice cream, whipped cream and blue and green sprinkles, macarons from Lady Yum, and rock candy.  The presentation was awesome and any 12th fan would appreciate the theme of the sundae.  The macarons were light yet dense with the Seahawk's colors and were my favorite part.  Lunch at Vivo 53 was great but the wow factor when they brought our sundae was the best part!
