Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

  Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. A Summer Escape to Whistler, BC

A quick three day trip up to Whistler, BC was just what we needed for a mid-summer escape.  Whistler is just ninety minutes north of Vancouver on the Sea to Sky Highway, so about a four to five hour drive from Seattle depending on traffic and how many stops you make.  The Olympic Winter Games were held in Whistler in 2010.  Since then its been a mecca for great skiing and snowboarding in the winter and biking and hiking in the summer.  The main area in Whistler, called Whistler Village, was updated for the Olympics and boasts many spectacular hotels, restaurants, and shops. 

My family isn't into the outdoor scene but we wanted to check out Whistler, enjoy the beautiful scenery and try some good food.  I was wowed by the European style buildings and the designer stores on every corner.  There was even a kid's park in the center of the main walking area which we visited twice.  I loved seeing the Olympic rings sculpture, especially since Whistler is the first Olympic host place I've visited. 

We stayed at a hotel right in the heart of Whistler and we walked everywhere.  The village was pretty pedestrian friendly and we were no more than a fifteen minute walk from anywhere we wanted to go.  Whistler has a very international feel with many visitors and workers from the U.K or Australia, it seemed.   Right now is a good time to visit Canada for American's though, with our exchange rate being so good.  I'm glad we made the drive to Whistler and checked it out.  It was always on my list of places to go.

The Lions Gate Bridge in Vancouver is the bridge you take to leave downtown and head to Whistler.

The Sea to Sky Highway heading to Whistler couldn't have been more gorgeous.  The road's a little scary for the driver though with its many twists and turns.
