Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

How to make a Whiskey Sour

Happy June! Summer is basically here and it's time to whip up some new cool cocktails.  The weather's been hot here in Seattle.  We've been way lucky this year with 90 degree weather back in April and in early June.  So there's nothing like sipping a drink while enjoying some sun, whether its a lemonade or even better, something stronger with whiskey.  My husband made us Whiskey Sours last night, a first for both of us.  He handed me mine and I was pleasantly surprised by how refreshing it was.  He added a splash of pineapple juice and grenadine to give the drink a fruity element and to balance the whiskey.  This may be my new favorite drink and hopefully he'll make me another soon.  If not, I've got the recipe here and it looks oh so simple.  Cheers!

Whiskey Sour

Yield: 1 drink

2 shots whiskey, preferably Maker's Mark Bourbon Whiskey
3/4 oz. lemon juice
3/4 oz. simple syrup
splash of pineapple juice
splash of Grenadine
3 or 4 ice cubes
1 slice lemon for garnish

Combine all ingredients except for the lemon slice into a cocktail shaker and shake vigorously.  Strain into a Delmonico or wine glass and garnish with the lemon slice.
