Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Easter Brunch at Portage Bay Cafe

For Easter I ate brunch at Portage Bay Cafe.  They are a very popular breakfast and lunch place located at 391 Terry Ave. N in Seattle.  They have two other locations in the U-District and in Ballard.  The cafe was busy so we had to wait about forty minutes to be seated.  If you get bored waiting for your table, you can order a Mimosa or coffee at the bar and drink it in the lobby while you wait.  I loved the interior of the restaurant.  There were boats hanging upside down from the ceiling and the whole place was very bright, just what a brunch place should be like.  One of the neatest things about the place is the toppings bar which is has strawberries, blackberries, pears, whipped cream, nuts and granola which you can add to your pancakes or french toast.  Just take your heaping plate of pancakes and walk over to the station where an never ending table of toppings await.  The cafe serves all organic products and the orange juice is even fresh squeezed.  I'm glad I checked out Portage Bay Cafe because now I know why it's one of the most popular brunch places in Seattle.

Coffee and Fresh Squeezed Orange Juice.

I ordered the Bananas Foster French Toast.  Its three slices of challah french toast with housemade Myer's rum caramel sauce and sauteed organic, fair trade bananas.  I loved the rum, caramel sauce and the amount of it.  I was only able to polish off two pieces because they were so thick.  I did make it to the Toppings bar where I got some whipped cream, stawberries and blackberries.
