Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Drinks at Altitude Sky Lounge

Cocktails from up top! Perched on the 16th floor of the Astra Hotel is Altitude Sky Lounge.

For drinks with a view of the Seattle Skyline, check out Altitude Sky Lounge. A quick elevator ride from the lobby of the Astra Hotel will take you to this rooftop bar. The views are stunning of the city, even on a grey, spring day like the day I visited. They open at 4 pm daily, and reservations are recommended. This is also a 21 and over place, so don't forget your I.D. My sons were at their friend's house, so my husband and I were able to go get drinks.

They have heaters and firepits, so it was warm even in March. We sat at a high-top table and had sweeping views of the Space Needle and the Seattle skyscrapers of SLU and downtown. Their food menu is limited, with appetizers and a couple of main dishes, but really pricey, items. We stuck to one round of drinks. Here, the cocktails don't come cheap. At around $20, you're paying for that sweet rooftop view.

For my cocktail I chose an Ultraviolet Dreams. This pretty purple drink has Purple Potato-Infused Tequila, Coconut-Ube Black Sea Salt Cream, Cointreau, and lime. The drink tasted good but was small and had a lot of ice. My husband's selection was an Orchard Optimization. This cocktail has Grilled Nectarine and Peach, Bonded Rye Whiskey, Dill, Honey, Citrus, Egg White, and salt. This drink was similar to a Sidecar and he enjoyed it.

As fun as it was to see the view from this rooftop bar, the food and drinks were too spendy. I'm happy I went and checked it out though. For guests staying at the hotel, this would be fun and convenient, especially if visiting Seattle for the first time and want to get some unique views from above!
