Trying Soft Serve from Treasure State Coffee Co in Lakeside, MT
On the way to my family's house in the Flathead Valley, we stopped at the cutest dessert and coffee place in Lakeside. Located along the gorgeous Flathead Lake is Treasure State Coffee Co. They sell soft serve ice cream, along with espresso, pastries, and even savory items. They have a drive-thru for convenience, but I wanted to go inside to check out their adorable interior.
I couldn't decide which soft serve to choose, but then I spotted huckleberry sauce on the menu. When in Montana, you order the huckleberry item. You won't regret it, just order it. Doesn't matter if its ice cream, pie, lemonade, cocktails- it's going to taste incredible. As you'll see in my coming blog posts, I did exactly this.
Huckleberries grow in abundance this time of year in MT. These purple berries are blueberries tastier cousin. And you can make many yummy things with them. When I was a kid, we used to spend hours picking huckleberries. My MT family members still go picking in the summer, and they usually get a lot.
So I chose a soft serve sundae with huckleberry sauce. The price was low at only $3, which for a locally owned place was great. So how was the ice cream? So smooth and creamy, and the huckleberry sauce hit the spot! The guy working was really nice and there was no wait to order my treat. My only regret? Not stopping and getting more ice cream on our way home.
