Desserts from the new bakery in South Park | Little Jaye
A dense, yet fluffy buttermilk biscuit from Little Jaye.
South Park has a new bakery! Little Jaye opened this past summer and is the perfect addition to the neighborhood. In West Seattle, Lady Jaye sits, one of the area's best spots for BBQ. On Sunday's, their co-owner Charlie Garrison, started experimenting with pastries. He would sell his goods at the West Seattle Farmer's Market. Cut forward about a year and a half later and they opened their bakery, Little Jaye.
Along with pastries Little Jaye sells coffee, breakfast sandwiches, salads, and sandwiches at lunchtime. The dessert display that greets you when you enter will make you salivate. There are huge cookies and even bigger Rice Crispy Treats. Some have brown butter bourbon, some have potato chips, Fruity Pebbles, and other have pretzels and M&M's. There's also brownies and fluffy buttermilk biscuits. They sell them plain, with strawberry and apricot, or with ham and cheddar.
We came for the treats. We tried a Chocolate Chip Cookie and a Sprankle Cookie (a sugar cookie with sprinkles). We also had a Loaded Rice Crispy Treat which has M&M's, pretzels, and marshmallows. The cookies are nice and thick, just right for sharing. My husband had a biscuit which he said was dense and delicious. He added some honey for a sweet touch.
One of my favorite things about the bakery/cafe is the large painting in the back with three icons-Anthony Bourdain, Dolly Pardon, and Bob Ross. Kind of a random mix, but somehow it works. There's also shelves with little nostalgic toys on them. If you're a child from the 80's like I, you probably remember the Raisin Men figurines!
Little Jaye is open Tuesday through Saturday from 7 am to 3 pm. I recommend arriving early to have your pick of goodies!
