Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Dinner at Wild Ginger in SLU

On the Friday after Thanksgiving, my family and I like to go out to dinner. This year we dined at Wild Ginger in SLU, which is also referred to as Wild Ginger McKenzie. They're located in the McKenzie Apartment building, a luxury high rise in South Lake Union.

Wild Ginger serves Pan Asian cuisine in a modern and upscale setting. Their menu has Southwest Asian food such as Chinese and Thai. Wild Ginger has been open since 1989, but this location opened in 2018. They also have a full bar, serving specialty cocktails. My drink was a Cherry Blossom. It had Sake, Cointreau, cranberry juice, lime, and orange bitters. My husband had a Rang Yai Pearl which had rum, coco lopez, pineapple juice, and lime. These cocktails were fancier versions of a Cosmo and a Pina Colada. They were very tasty drinks.

They also have a kid's menu with Panko Chicken Nuggets, Chicken Satay, Fried Rice, and Chinese Noodles with Soy Sauce and Veggies. My sons had the nuggets and Chinese Noodles, which were egg noodles and my son really liked them. They were even offered complimentary Blackberry Sorbet at the end of their meal, which they really enjoyed.

My husband and I shared several dishes. I like how the dishes are served family style, meaning you can have several things. We had the Cantonese Fried Rice with Vegetables, the Papaya Salad, and some Chicken Pad Thai. The Papaya Salad and Pad Thai were a little spicy. Everything tasted delicious and I was impressed with all of the flavors.

Wild Ginger also has a downtown location and one in Bellevue. Definitely check this spot out if you enjoy Asian cuisine and cocktails in a classy setting!
