A Stay at Ruby River Hotel in Spokane, WA

Cocktails at Osprey, the on-site restaurant located inside the Ruby River Hotel.

On our way back home to Seattle from MT, we stayed overnight at Ruby River Hotel, located in downtown Spokane. The hotel is located along the Spokane River, making for some nice and relaxing river views. Gonzaga University and Riverfront Park are also nearby. This is a family hotel, with a playground, an outdoor swimming pool, and well, families and kids everywhere we looked. During our stay, there were baseball teams staying there, and kids were running down the hallway, unaccompanied. If you're looking for a quiet boutique hotel, this isn't it. Since we have young kids, we didn't mind too much.

They have free parking and complimentary breakfast. But the breakfast room was packed, and everything looked picked over. There was toast and bagels, cereal, yogurt, along with some fruit. There was only one toaster, so you had to wait in line. Not the greatest, but sometimes beggars can't be choosers, and you just want to eat a quick breakfast and get on the road.

The guest rooms were pretty nice, however. We had a view of the river, and the room was modern. There was a mini fridge and microwave, and I liked the bathroom. Everything was new and nice looking. I liked the quotes on the wall from the Northwest. We used the outdoor pool, but it was raining and pretty chilly out.

Our favorite part about the hotel was the on-site restaurant, Osprey. Our server was super nice and our cocktails were really strong. Our table had a view of the Spokane River, which we really enjoyed. I started with a Whiskey Sour and my husband had a Manhattan. We liked the drinks so much we decided to try another one, this time from the HH menu. We each chose an Osprey. This cocktail was so pretty and tasted strong, too.

To eat, I chose the Osprey Burger. It had Pimento cheese, and was cooked medium rare and served with fries. It was one good burger and paired so well with the drinks. The fries also hit the spot. My husband had some poke salmon on toast with avocado. They have a kids' menu, so my sons had the Grilled Cheese and the Pasta with butter.

After staying a while in the restaurant and probably wearing out our welcome, it was time to head to our room and rest our heads. The beds were nice and comfy. And before we knew it, it was time to drive home to Seattle.
