Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

Celebrating Mother's Day at Wooden City in Tacoma

Pepperoni Pizza with peppers and honey from Wooden City.

To celebrate Mother's Day my family and I had dinner at Wooden City in Tacoma. This is a gem in Tacoma and they fill up tables fast! We had made a reservation, but it was an early seating at 4 pm, right when they opened. It tells you a lot about a place when there's a line outside and it's hard to get a reservation at your desired time. Wooden City also has a location in Spokane.

Located in the heart of downtown Tacoma, they serve American cuisine. I couldn't wait to try their food, since I had found so many great reviews online. They have a happy hour, so I was able to get a Daiquiri for a couple bucks off. My husband had a Manhattan. To eat, he had the Chicken Sandwich and I had a Pepperoni Pizza, which I shared with my son. Our other son had the Classic Mozzarella Cheese Bread.

The food and drinks at Wooden City are top notch. My pizza was on point. I loved the flavors of the spicy pepperoni and peppers paired with the sweet honey. The crust was just right and was baked in their wood fired oven. My husband really enjoyed his Fried Chicken Sandwich and liked the how fresh it tasted. They use slaw, honey, cucumbers, and a zesty mustard.

For dessert, we all shared a slice of cheesecake. It had a graham cracker crust and a berry jam. This was one of the best cheesecakes we've eaten. Our server said when she tried it, she almost cried. Well, if your dessert isn't so good it makes you tear up, skip it!

Since Wooden City is located in downtown Tacoma, we enjoyed checking out the historic buildings and taking some photos. We'd never hung out in this part of Tacoma before and really liked it! I really recommend dining at Wooden City. You'll love the vibe, the service, and the food!
