Trying Taiyaki at Matcha Man Seattle
A Pineapple and Strawberry Swirled Dole Whip Taiyaki with coconut shavings from Matcha Man Seattle!
Matcha Man Seattle recently opened their shop in Georgetown. They used to do only pop-ups. They didn't do them often, but when they did they really drew long lines. I made it to one a few years ago and got to try a taiyaki with their Cereal Milk soft serve. It was really delicious and you could taste the quality of both the ice cream and the Taiyaki.
A Taiyaki is a Japanese dessert and is a waffle shaped fish. There are different shaped molds to make them. I've had taiyaki with ice cream on top and we've eaten them with fillings such as Nutella and melted cheese. At Matcha Man Seattle, the soft serve flavors currently are Matcha, Vanilla, Black Sesame, Ube, Pineapple Dole Whip, and Strawberry Dole Whip. The Dole Whip flavors are both vegan. You can also pick two flavors and have them swirled together.
You can also pick two toppings and choose if you want red bean in your taiyaki. The red bean will be in the very bottom "tail" of the fish. I ordered mine and my sons without, but we had a surprise with red bean in one. Luckily my husband likes it a lot so he ate that one. I chose the Pineapple and Strawberry Dole Whip with coconut shavings and a Pocky Stick in a taiyaki. My son picked Vanilla with Rainbow sprinkles in a taiyaki. My other son got an Ube swirled with Vanilla with Rainbow sprinkles, also in a taiyaki. My husband and I shared mine. They melt super fast, so you gotta get those pictures fast.
I ordered mine in a cup with the taiyaki, but they forgot and then handed me a cup. I ended up taking a bunch of photos and eating a little. Then I transferred it to the cup. But I forgot to grab a spoon to eat it, so I had a messy and interesting time in my car trying to finish it. Note: a straw works ok in place of a spoon in a pinch.
If you like soft serve and trying unique flavors, then check this spot out in Georgetown. And if you haven't tried a taiyaki yet, I definitely recommend them!
