Lunch and dessert in Newcastle | Blazing Onion Burger Co and Frosty Barrel
Newcastle, WA is a city near Bellevue and is 14 miles from Seattle. I'd heard about Frosty Barrel in Newcastle on Instagram and knew I wanted to visit. We decided to make an afternoon of it and have lunch first at Blazing Onion Burger Co. Then after we were done with lunch and dessert, we'd find a park for the boys. Traffic from Seattle was light, so we arrived at the Newcastle Commons, the strip mall where the two businesses are, in no time.
Blazing Onion wasn't busy when we walked in. They have a full bar, burgers, wings, salads, and more. The drink special was a Sunset for $7, two bucks off. I had one of those and it tasted nice and fruity like a Mai Tai. My husband had a Peach Smash which had whiskey and had a tasty peach flavor. I had some boneless BBQ wings with bleu cheese and a house salad. Our boys had Chicken Strips and my husband had a burger with BBQ sauce and it was topped with onion rings. It was a huge burger and he ended up taking half home.
Then it was time to go get dessert. Right next door is Frosty Barrel where they serve ice cream, beer, and wine. They have boozy ice cream and sorbet and wine and ice cream flights. They also sell cookies from Lowrider Cookie Co, a local cookie place we love. My sons each had a kid's scoop of Cookies and Cream and one of them had a Birthday Cake cookie.
My husband and I shared the House Mixed Pairing Flight. This flight, served with ice cream and sorbet had two white wines and two reds. There was a Rose paired with Strawberry Sorbet, a Pinot Gris with Peach Champagne Sorbet, a Rock Island Cabernet with Strawberry ice cream, and a Merlot with Cookies and Cream ice cream. It was quite the presentation and we couldn't wait to dig in to the ice cream and get to sipping the wines.
Our favorite wine was the Merlot. Each wine and ice cream were paired really well together in terms of flavor. The Strawberry ice cream was so good and creamy, we thought it was a Strawberry Cheesecake. The Cookies and Cream went really well with the Merlot. And it was fun to try the Peach Champagne Sorbet. It tasted so fresh from the peaches and the Champagne gave it a nice zing. This was a really unique and fun experience, especially if you're a lover of wine and dessert.
We spent a little time at a playground close by, then drove back home full and satisfied!
