A fun 7th BD with dinner at Salty's and a Minecraft Cake
My sons are really into Minecraft right now. So they requested a cake with a Creeper on it for their birthday cake. If you're not familiar with Minecraft, at this point I feel really familiar because my boys love to tell me about it, the Creepers are the bad guys that are green. To make it easier on myself, I just used cake mix and baked it in two 9 inch pans. Then I cut each one into a square. I colored my frosting bright green and spread some on top of the first cake square. Then I placed the second square on top and frosted that. We used Hershey's Chocolate pieces for the Creepers face. They were happy with the cake and thought it was fun!
For dinner, our family went to Salty's on Alki Beach. The views of the Seattle skyline are incredible. We had a table by two windows so we were able to see the skyline in front of us and the beach on the other side. Salty's is really the perfect spot to celebrate a special occasion. The ambiance and service is pretty upscale. My husband and I dined there about fifteen years ago. It was one of our first dates and was during Valentine's Day. I figured our boys would enjoy the food and views and they really did! They do have a kid's menu, too. My husband started off with a Manhattan and I chose a Huckleberry Lemondrop. It was so good and refreshing. The cocktail was nice and sweet, so I sipped it slowly to savor it.
My boys got the Fish and Chips which was Alaskan Cod. And my husband had the Salmon Caesar Salad. I chose a Caesar salad and the Steak Skewers. We started off with some Sourdough Bread and I loved the way it tasted. For dessert, they brought out a complimentary piece of White Chocolate Cake with a candle and we had also ordered a kid's ice cream sundae with a cookie that also had a candle. It was really fun watching the evening arrive over the city and seeing the night sky change dark to that gorgeous blue I love. If you enjoy dining with awesome views of the city, then go check this spot out!
