Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. A Visit to Thierry in Vancouver

A huge Chocolate Pistachio Macaron from Thierry in Vancouver.

When there's a drool worthy dessert spot a few blocks from your hotel, you don't hesitate to pay a visit. The patisserie Thierry has been voted "best dessert in Vancouver" by Where Magazine. And the pastry chef is Thierry Busset who was trained in France and worked for Michelin star restaurants in London. You can read more about him and the café here on the Thierry website.

I knew we were in for a treat and apparently so did a lot of people, as it was busy inside. We joined  the line of people staring at the delectable pastries in the display, deciding what to order. We chose  several macarons and a chocolate croissant. The price seemed a little high for those items, but I didn't question it.

We took a seat outside at one of the small bistro tables. And inside were two of the biggest macarons ever. Instead of two regular sixed macarons, the lady gave us the large ones. But nobody complained because who could resist these gorgeous desserts? They were chocolate with pistachio and looked almost too pretty to eat. After taking some photos, we dug in to our pastries.

The chocolate macarons were so soft and sweet, and perfect for sharing. They were topped with a light, whipped vanilla cream and covered in bits of pistachio and dried fruits. The chocolate croissant was also delicious. It was flakey and full of chocolate pieces. I'm so glad we popped in for a treat. Thierry was way worth the short walk from our hotel.
