Happy Hour and Dessert in Capitol Hill

Happy Hour Street Tacos with Carne Asada and a Miami Vice from Poquitos.  Poquitos is located in Capitol Hill and they're serving up authentic Mexican cuisine and cocktails. Their happy hour deal is a good one- during Ocho hour, everything on the happy hour menu is just $8! I went with a Miami Vice, a classic Pina Colada with Strawberry. This blended cocktail was so fruity and delicious. To eat I had two Carne Asada Street Tacos and a Birria Poquitos Burrito. The Burrito was small and served with a side of Consommé sauce. Both food items were tasty and satisfying.  My husband also had some Street Tacos and a Margarita from the happy hour menu. My sons had a Cheese Quesadilla and beans and rice. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I first visited Poquitos in 2012, also for happy hour, and I remembered liking it then, too. It was time for a meal there again.  For dessert, we walked about ten minutes west to  Voodoo Doughnut . The Seattle location opened late last ye...

A Visit to The Alley in Vancouver

Not only is the dessert scene popping in Vancouver but they also have some stellar bubble tea places. We visited the newish The Alley, in downtown. When they first opened, the lines were out the door. Luckily for me, there were only several people waiting ahead of me. Their deer logo and decor is cute and memorable. At The Alley, they call their tapioca pearls Deerioca, which they make from scratch. They also make their own sugar cane syrup and their tea leaves are carefully selected. Quality is what they're going for and a lot of care goes into each drink.

The one I tried was the Snow Strawberry Lulu from the Lulu Fresh Fruit series. This summer drink also comes in an Orange flavor that also looked good. Mine had fresh strawberries, crushed ice in a white peach oolong tea base, and then it was topped with their snow velvet. This was an awesome summer drink. It was really fruity and refreshing. My husband and I shared it, and it was really yummy to sip while strolling around Robson St.
