Exploring Granville Island

For the second night of our trip to Vancouver we stayed at the Granville Island Hotel. We were originally going to stay with family that night but they ended up having to go out of town. That meant I got to choose another hotel. I chose this one because it sounded fun to stay on Granville Island. After we checked in and got settled and rested, we took a walk around.

Granville Island is technically not an island, but a sandpit located under the Granville Island Bridge. In the early 1900's it was home to factories, plants, and sawmills. Today it is a posh neighborhood filled with galleries, restaurants, stores, craft studios, and a huge Public Market.

One fun and easy way to access Granville Island is by taking one of the mini boats from downtown. We've never done this but I enjoy taking photos of the boats and all of the Vancouver's ever growing architecture from Granville Island.

During out walk we wandered into the Kid's Market, a two story building filled with toy stores and other entertainment for the little ones. Since we were a little tired from traipsing all over Vancouver with our toddlers, we walked the three or so blocks back to our hotel and ordered room service for dinner. After eating, my son and I took a walk around outside the hotel. The views of False Creek, the many boats, and downtown Vancouver were beautiful.
