Cafe Trophy
Since Valentine's Day is Wednesday, you might be on the lookout for some special desserts. Café Trophy at the Bravern in Bellevue may be what you're searching for. I visited for the first time yesterday and was greeted with a long display case of cupcakes, macarons, pastries, cakes, and even sandwiches. Feel like some bubbly to pair with your dessert? They offer many choices of wines and champagne. The space is large and there is additional seating in the back. There are plenty of tables to sit at while indulging in something sweet, underneath the grand lighting fixtures, which seem fitting since we are at the Bravern, after all.
I wanted to purchase something that said "it's Valentine's Day, I want something pink, red, or with hearts". Luckily for me, they were selling a Dark Chocolate Raspberry cupcake, a Pink Rose cupcake, and a Raspberry Champagne macaron, just what I wanted.
Their cupcakes seems to be a little top heavy, but I'm not one to complain about a lot of frosting. Their cake can also be overly crumby, so I've always thought Trophy's cupcakes taste better later after being refrigerated. So I took my cupcakes home and my son and I gobbled them both up. My favorite was the Dark Chocolate Raspberry because the sweet raspberry filling was a surprise. And the dark chocolate on top was perfectly dark and chocolaty, like its name.
The macarons were like macarons always are. Pricey and gone in two bites, before you know what happened. I was excited to finally try Trophy's though. Nowadays in Seattle, you can find them everywhere and they no longer seems like a novelty. I've never met one I didn't like, and those few bites are always a bit of heaven. Although macarons are widely available here its fun to see the different flavors each place offers. The more unique, the more fun and adventurous it feels (and tastes) The Raspberry Champagne was nice-sweet and tart, and left me wanting more.
If you get that itch for luxury shopping and find yourself at the Bravern, head into Café Trophy and treat yourself to something delicious. Or something for your valentine, of course.
